Sibongile Beverages, trading under the Golden Horn brand, was founded in 2019 with a clear mission: to introduce functional beverages into Eswatini’s emerging health and wellness market. At the time, drinks like kombucha, kefir, and vitamin waters were rare and mostly imported at high costs. Sibongile Beverages saw an opportunity to fill this gap by crafting locally made beverages that offered both health benefits and premium quality.
From its inception, the company focused on drinks that went beyond simple refreshment. Its product line was designed to support wellness, hydration, and lifestyle needs. Kombucha and kefir brought probiotics for gut health, iced teas delivered antioxidants, and vitamin waters offered hydration with added nutrients. Over time, the range expanded to include protein shakes and health shots, reinforcing Sibongile Beverages’ position as a pioneer in functional drinks in Eswatini.
The company’s early development took place under the incubatorship of the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP), where it received support in product development and business strategy. This phase laid the groundwork for its first product line and helped establish its identity. In 2021, Sibongile Beverages moved into SEDCO in Manzini, marking a significant step forward. The three years spent at SEDCO (2021–2024) were transformative: the company gained a dedicated production space, increased output, standardized recipes, and began refining its processing methods.
During this period, exhibitions and expos became a vital part of the brand’s growth. Locally, Sibongile Beverages participated in festivals and wellness events, connecting directly with consumers. These platforms allowed the company to showcase its unique flavors—like hibiscus berry kombucha, ginger lemon iced tea, and blueberry mint vitamin water—to health-conscious individuals, athletes, and young professionals. Regionally and internationally, the brand gained exposure through trade shows and development programs, positioning itself among Africa’s innovative food and beverage startups. These experiences provided valuable insights into packaging, consumer preferences, and global wellness trends.
Exhibitions also opened doors to networking opportunities with distributors, buyers, and collaborators. By 2024, the company had outgrown its SEDCO facility. Rising demand for Golden Horn beverages required a more advanced setup, prompting a move to the Matsapha Industrial Site—Eswatini’s main industrial hub. This relocation marked a turning point. The new space offered better infrastructure, enabling the company to scale production with larger fermentors, mixers, and refrigeration units. Plans were initiated to invest in bottling, labeling, and carbonation machinery. Matsapha’s strategic location also improved logistics, allowing for more consistent deliveries to retailers nationwide.
Sibongile Beverages’ philosophy is rooted in the belief that beverages should do more than quench thirst—they should enhance wellness. Functional drinks became the natural expression of this vision. Kombucha and kefir supported digestive health, iced teas provided antioxidants, vitamin waters replenished hydration with added nutrition, and protein shakes catered to active lifestyles.
