Our Craft
Wonderful Handcraft specializes in hand-carved soapstone sculptures, particularly designs inspired by African wildlife and nature. Some of the most popular creations include carvings of animals such as lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo, often known as Africa’s Big Five. Each sculpture is carefully crafted by hand, ensuring attention to detail, durability, and artistic quality. The process involves shaping, carving, smoothing, and finishing the stone to create a unique and beautiful piece of art.

Our Story
The Story of Wonderful Handcraft
Wonderful Handcraft was founded in 2002 by a determined young man from a village in Eswatini named Wonder Dlamini. Growing up with limited resources, Wonder faced many challenges in pursuing his education. Due to financial difficulties, he was forced to leave school earlier than he had hoped.
However, instead of allowing his circumstances to define his future, Wonder chose a different path. With determination and curiosity, he began observing and learning from local artisans, carefully studying how handcrafted items were made. Through dedication and practice, he gradually mastered the art of creating sculptures from soapstone, transforming simple pieces of stone into beautiful works of art. After completing one of his first stunning sculptures, Wonder decided to take a bold step and try to sell it. That first sale became a turning point in his life. It gave him confidence, motivation, and the belief that his talent could build something greater. Inspired by this moment, he continued crafting more pieces and began dreaming of building his own business. With time and perseverance, Wonder opened a small craft store in Malolotja.
The journey was not easy. His shop was forced to close more than twice due to various challenges and unforeseen circumstances. But Wonder refused to give up. Driven by passion and belief in his craft, he continued knocking on doors, searching for opportunities and people who would believe in his vision. His persistence eventually led him to Gwenya Glass, where he was warmly welcomed and given a spacious place to display his artwork. This opportunity allowed Wonder to showcase his sculptures to visitors from around the world.
Since then, Wonderful Handcraft has grown, with Wonder’s stone sculptures being appreciated both within Eswatini and internationally. Today, Wonderful Handcraft stands as a symbol of perseverance, creativity, and passion. While Wonder has made significant progress, his journey is far from over. His vision is to expand the business, share his knowledge and skills with the next generation of artisans, and empower young people by teaching them the art of stone craftsmanship.
Through dedication and hard work, what began as the dream of a village boy has grown into a story of resilience and inspiration. And that is how Wonderful Handcraft was born.
